Airports

San Clemente is about 35 minutes from John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA) and about 20 minutes from our house. It is about 60 minutes from San Diego Airport (SAN). All of the major airlines fly into both airports. “Normal” roundtrip airfares to John Wayne Airport seem to run about $200-300 from Chicago and $250-350 from Detroit. (FYI - we normally buy our tickets two to three weeks in advance.) You may get a cheaper fare if you fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). However, please note that this is about 1 hour from our house and 1 hour 15 minutes from San Clemente.

Lodging

We will be staying at the Villa Del Mar Inn in the pier/beach area of San Clemente. We have reserved our room for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. There are a number of these “beachfront” hotels on Avenida Victoria, all within a few doors of each other. Below is information on a few of these. If you’re looking for the “beach town experience,” I would highly recommend staying in one of these. One important thing to note, however! These hotels book up very quickly since they are very small (Villa Del Mar Inn has a total of eight rooms!), so I would suggest that you make your reservations ASAP. We have been told that rooms for that weekend start booking up in April.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn in San Clemente (111 South Avenida De Estrella). Their telephone number is (949) 361-3000 – the reservations number is (800) HOLIDAY. Reservations are held under “Ledbetter-Pero” and need be made by September 1, 1999. Standard room rates start at $79/night and ocean view starts at $89/night.
